GUARDS IN ACTION AGAINST MALAY TERRORISTS
- SINGAPORE, Oct 17. The Coldstream Guards went into action for the first time in Malaya this week-end. Together with police and members of the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, a detachment of the Coldstream Guards raided a terrorist hide-out near Bidor, south Perak. They were seeking terrorist who k'lled four soldiers earlier this month. They shot dead one terrorist and wounded four others, who escaped into the jungle.
Altogether four Chinese terrorists were killed in Malaya to-day and a constable and two Chinese were murdered. The Royal Air Force in the last 48 hours launched its biggest attack so far against hide-outs in the west Pahang jungle. Spitfires and Beaufighters carried out attacks with bombs, rockets and cannon. In North Perak the pol’ce and military yesterday launched a big offensive to clear’ up the worst trouble centre n Malaya, in the notorious Sungei Siput area, near Ipoh. The forces evacuated 500 Chinese squatters who were believed to be concealing and aidino- the terrorists and burned down 100 of their huts.
