ENGLISH CHILDREN CUT DOWN 147 TREES IN PUBLIC PARK

To Make a Bonfire !

(Rec. 11.5} LONDON, Oct. 18 The “Yorkshire Post” reports that two hundred children, who were armed with saws and axes, demolished the wood land in the Wombell Miners’ Welfare Park. They did this after a passer-by, jokingly, told a few of the children: “Take the Jot!” He said this when they asked him if they could have some of the wood for a bonfire. In one hour the children felled one hundred and fortyseven trees. One group of them used a pony to move the wood.
