Bangkok slept through the epic and few knew what had happened even twenty-four hours later. . . A Rebel group comprising a few Siamese statesmen, some ‘‘ Fre^! Thai” veterans of World War 11, and several Siamese Army officers, staked their lives in an attempt to overthrow the Government headed by Marshal F’hilbul Songgram and bring back to power their hero, th e former Prime Minister and resistance- leader, Pridi Panomyong. Soon they called off the revolt and surrendered.
