NEW GREYMOUTH POLICE STATION NOT FORGOTTEN
Advice From Prime Minister
Constant attention was being given to the matter of the new Greymouth police station, said the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. P. Fraser), in a letter received by the Westland Progress League last night. Mr Fraser said he had been informed that the architectual drawings were for all practical purposes completed, and that the drawings of the structural and building services (heating and electrical) were well advanced. It was anticipated that all would be completed- simultaneously, but, due to the shortage of skilled staff for the work, it was likely that two or three months would elapse before the whole project was completed to enable tenders to be called. “It is felt”, said Mr Fraser, “that in all the circumstances progress generally has been satisfactory, taking into account the magnitude of th? work and the skilled staff available. It is regretted that earlier completion has not been possible, but I can assure you that this important work is receiving constant attention”. The chairman (Mr W. D. Taylor) said they had been waiting three months, and now would have to war a further two oi' three months. Mr J. S. Robertson said the League had been hanging on long enough. They should ask if the architect was doing one line a day. Mr G. R, Harker said it was a big job. Mr Robertson: What, to draw a plan? Mr Harker: No, the building. Mr Robertson said he was disappointed in the reply. He moved that the Government be asked to expedite the matter. The motion was agreed to.
