BOXING Petersen Beats Stevens on Points
P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, October 5 Laurie Petersen, of Australia, beat Rov Stevens, middleweight champion of New Zealand, on points, in a 12-round professional catchweight boxing match this evening Petersen weighed lOst 9*lbs, and Stevehs list the early rounds, Stevens was the aggressor, but Petersen kept out of trouble, and, from the fifth round onward, he held a slight, but definite advantage. He was quicker to the punch than Stevens, and his persistent use of a right openedjap , a (^e ®P cut above Stevens’ left eye in the eighth round. In the last two' rounds Stevens made a desperate effort, but Petersen mixed it willingly, and in the last round he was scoring with monotonous regularity.
