Declaring that it was a.mistake for two small electric power Doaras to operate in the district, the president (Mr vv. H. Martin) urged the amalgamation or the Grey and Buller Power boards, at the executive meeting of tile Federated Farmers of New Zealand, west coast branch yesterday, x-re adaea that sucn a<i amalgamation would be or great advantage, and he would like to hear some public explanation oi the advantages or disadvantages of such a scheme. Mr Martin said he felt that any parochial feelings should be set aside, and he would like to see them step off on the right foot. If they could beneiit the farmers in the Buller district by linking up with the power scheme in Greymouth, he gave every support. He did not know if the Grey Bower Board had done anything to give information, but all cards shoud be put on the table, and the public acquainted with the position.
VITAL QUESTION Mr C. Jamieson said the chairman was to be commended upon his interest in the matter, and he was of the opinion that there should be a greater West Coast Power Board. The supply of electric power was the most vital thing in the progress of South Westland. If Ross had the power, the question of the supply of lime would not be as difficult as it was to-day. The whole question of supply was acute, but they should set the machinery in operation so that tvhen the big generating plants got going, they would have everything ready, he said. Mr E. Skilton said the question was decidely important, and he moved that the Grey Power Board be asked to supply information on the advantages and disadvantages of amalgamating the Grey and Bullei’ Power Boards. . The motion was agreed to.
