THE TURF SHENANDOAH SHOULD REPEAT AT WESTPORT

Goad Things Expected ! Of Queen’s General An impressive winner over ten furlongs at Reefton, Shenandoah should prove one of the hardest to beat in 1 j e Colvin Handicap at Westport, today. The son of Master Colossus is now racing solidly, and the mile journey would appear to be all in his lavouf., Best of the others may be ■* Palomino, which handles small tracks ■ advantage, and Velvet Slipper. ■ Having his first race tor some time, ’ Queen’s General turned on a good performance when he acted as runner- ■' up to Sitology last week. No doubt ? the outing would do him a vast • amount of good, and he should take . a hand in the finish of the principal ■ race of the day, the Westport Hack Handicap. Volomai and Beau Idea: are both capable, staying backs with » prospects, while Mr Buzz would only have to repeat Riccarton form to have a chance. Loch Lennox, by Balloch, has on more than one' occasion indicated that staying would be her forte, and this may provide her with the opportunity of opening her winning account. „ . , - Both the Scanlon and Enright Hack Handicaps have drawn good ■ fields, especially the former, in which the elect of backers may be Finigin, winner of a two-year-old handicap at Wingatui last season, Skyzami, twice " a winner as a two-year-old and second at Reefton, All’s Fair, which weighed in eleven times out of fifteen attempts ■ last season as a 3-year-old, and Beaugency, which opened her winning ac- ’ count at Wingatui in June. In the Enright, Sitolbgy, Our Style and Dress Rehearsal may be among those most sought after. Since the club last raced the track . has received a good deal of attention. A good surface under any conditions, .. the track promises to be particularly fast for to-day, when the West- , port Jockey Club should conduct one of the most successful meetings in its history. Betting will be under the win and place system, and the following runners appeal. Buller Stakes: Highway, Bambalina, C’rirlrpt K'ipld Denniston Trot: Scotch Drift, Stra- -■ thosphere, Sarsfield.
