MANILA, Sept. 9. Mass evacuation of Uamiguin Island, in the southern Philippines was ordered to-day because of an acute emergency resultin gfrom a rain of deadly acidic ash in new eruptions by Mount Hibokhibok. A Philippines naval patrol vessel broadcast an urgent radio appeal to all ships within call to proceed to the island and remove the remaining 15,000 inhabitants. Hibokhibok has been erupting since September 1 and 36,000 islanders have already been removed. Subsequently the eruption quietened and the danger to the remaining inhabitants was believed Past. To-day’s radio appeal broadcast by Arturo Alcaraz, the Philippines Weather Bureau vulcanologist,.aboard a patrol vessel, said all the available boats were needed for the evacuation and added that order was being maintained. Most of the men seen in German hotels smoke cigarettes which in south and western Germany, now cost 30 pfennigs each. These are no longer. obtainable only from shady-looking individuals at street corners, but are on sale at almost all tobaconists.. The price, though high, compares favourably with German cigarettes which cost 20 pfennigs each.
