SAMOAN COUPLE RE-UNITED IN COURT

AUCKLAND, Sept 9. A Samoan, who lost his temper when his wife would not return to live with him, assaulted her and threw her baby on the sofa, with the result that the child fell on the and was injured, was reunited with his wife in the Supreme Court to-day. Before Mr Justice Stanton passed sentence on Julius Abner _ Duffy, aged 2’3, a carpenter, the prisoner s wife arrived and said she was P re " pared to return to her husband. Defending counsel, Mr Aekins, said that the prisoner had since taken out a prohibition order against himself. The Judge said he would give Duffy the benefit of the doubt as to whether he meant to harm the child. He ordered two years’ _ probation, conditional that he abstain from intoxicating liquor and pay f 5 towards the cost of the prosecution.
