Wedding Delay
SYDNEY, September 5. A series of misunderstandings nas resulted in a young man —who should have been married last Tuesday to his New Zealand fiancee—having to fly back to Brisbase to find his bride. The man is Dudley Smart, aged 23 of Maryborough (Queensland); the fiancee Mrs Mavis Hillock, aged 2c>. of Dunedin (New Zealand). . Receiving a cable that she would be flying, Smart arrived from Brisbane on Tuesday. He arranged for the wedding to take place here at Sil Stephen’s Macquarie St., at 3 p.m. Told that the plane was behind time,> he postponed the wedding to 4 p.m. Then he found she’d come by flying-boat, instead of by &kymaster—but hadn’t told the K officials where she would be staying. Desperate, Smart contacted the police. Then, at the G.P.O. next morning, he found a letter from his bride. She had phoned his father at Longreach; had been told to catch the night’s train for Brisbane. At a city airlines office Smart got; a seat on a plane leaving Wednesday afternoon. He said:— ~ “What a pickle! I knew she would be lost <in Sydney. I hope I can catch .up to her in Brisbane.” He had- to postpone his wedding several months ago. to fly to Queensland, because of his father’s illness.
