Greek Rebels Aided by Albania Is U.N.O. Finding
— $ ATHENS, Sept. 8. < The polic arrested about 800 per- 5 sons in the Athens area and 600 in } Piraeus yesterday. It is believed, this was in the hope of uncovering lead- f ing Communists in hiding. , The United Nations’ Special Com- < mission on the Balkans stated that ] Albania has assisted the guerrilla ; leader, Markos, in the. Grammos campaign with the Albanian Govern- ' ment’s consent and knowledge. United Nations observers, who in- ’ spected the frontier, saw guerrilla machine-guns, mortar positions, i trenches, and other military em- 1 placements inside Albania. This readily explained why Greek units violated Albanian territory. The commission has approved, by seven votes to one, a proposal to 1 send United Nations headquarters a , report supporting the Greek claims that Albania is aiding the guerrillas. ;
