STOREMEN SEEK WAGE INCREASE

AUCKLAND, Sept 9.

Substantial wage increases are to be sought by New Zealand Federated Storemen, Packers and Warehouse Employees’ Union of Workers when the delegates meet the employers in Conciliation Council in Wellington on September 21, seeking a new Dominion award.

The union will request a weekly wage, of £7 5s for adult storemen, as compared with the present rate of £ 6 10s 6d. Proportionate increases will bo sought for younger workers, including an additionrj 6s to 7s weekly for juniors. The union does not propose any disturbance of the present 40-hour week, but is requesting that all holidays falling on Saturday be observed on Monday.
