LABOUR M.P. CONSIDERS AVERAGE FARMER NOT GREEDY
P.A. WELLINGTON, September 9. Mr. W. T. Anderton (Govt., Auckland Central), resuming the Budget debate in the House of Representatives, said he did not think the average farmer was the avaricious, greedy individual, which the Opposition made him out to be. He believed the farmer would produce in the interests of this country, and would not, as the Opposition implied, curtail his production simph; because he objected to paying higher taxes. The Labour Government had done more in fostering social medicine than had the British Medical Association, declared Mr Anderton, continuing the Budget debate in the House to-night. An un-cd-operative attitude bn the part of the B.M.A. was handicapping the Govei'nment in its programme of building up a sound system of social medicine. “We have got social security, but not social medicine”, he said.
