W.F.T.U. Now Only A Soviet Echo, Says The President

LONDON, September 8. Mr. Arthur Deakin, the President of the World Federation of Trade Unions, told the Trades Union Congress that the W.F.T.U. was rapidly becoming nothing more than another platform for Soviet policy. “There has been little or no agreement within the Federation,” he said. When the organisation was set up, the balance between the Communist and non-Communist countries was even, but now there are about five representatives of Communist countries to every three of the others. Whenever the issue goes to a vote, the Federation becomes a Commun-ist-dominated organisation.” Dr. Deakin was speaking on a resolution calling upon the Congress to reaffirm its support of the W.F.T.U. and urging its_rgpresentatiyes to resist attempts, to destroy unity inside the organisation. The resolution was overwhelmingly defeated on a show of hands.
