WAIKATO MINERS MAY RESUME WORK NEXT WEEK

P.A. AUCKLAND, Sept. 3. Work may be resumed in the MacDonald, Pukemiro and Glen Afton mines next week. A spokesman of the strikers’ committee said to-night that proposals are to be put to a meeting, in Huntly of the men from the idle mines tomorrow morning, and these might effect a settlement. He said he had not made any predictions before, but this time, the strikers’ committee was hoping that a settlement was “looming up.” He said that no reply had yet been received to a second request of the men for the National Executive of the United Mine Workers’ Union to visit Huntly to discuss the dispute.
