Sweeping Success of N.Z. Cyclist
WELLINGTON, Aug. 23. Alien Stonex, the New Zealand track cycling representative, who is competing in the world amateur sprint championship at Amsterdam on Friday should, judged by his latest form give a good account of himself. Stonex followed up his Gosport (England) record-breaking performance' of 39.8 seconds for 586 yards on July 23 with a sweeping success in international company on the same track on August 14. This advice is contained in a cable received by Mr P. N. Robinson, president of» the N.Z.A.C.A. from Stonex, who said: Rode in a few sprints at an international meet in Gosport—three competitors in each—and won them all. Mr Robinson said to-day that Stonex, being unable to train at Herne Hill (which is open only Mo Olympic track men) had made Gosports (Portsmouth) his headquarters. Stonex had intimated that although the cream of Britain’s cyclists at the time of writing were away he had enjoyed plenty of first class competition in Gosport. Success of Belgian THE HAGUE, Aug. 22. A Belgian rider, A. Schoote, won the world professional 168-mile road cycling' race in 450 minutes 42.5 seconds. _______
