Mr H. Temple White is a visitor to Greymouth from Wellington. Mr G. Thompson, of Auckland, left by plane for Wellington yesterday, after a visit to Greymouth. Mr Winston Churchill has crossed to France by steamer on a six weeks' visit to Aix-en-Provence, where he will continue his work on his war memoirs. The funeral of Mr John Walker, of Kaiata, took place at the Karoro Cemetery yesterday. The services at his daughter’s residence, Kaiata, and at the graveside, were taken by the Rev. T. G. Campbell. The Rev. Murray J. Savage, and Mrs Savage, of the Church of Christ, Greymo.uth, leave for Wellington this morning, where Mr Savage has accepted an appointment. He has been stationed in Greymouth for two years. A successor has not yet been appointed. The funeral of the late Mrs Annie Barclay, of Greymouth, took place at Karoro Cemetery yesterday. The Rev. Father T. Farrell celebrated Requiem Mass at St. Patrick’s Church and conducted the service at the graveside. 1
On arriving in Vancouver, Miss Mary Wootton (“Miss New Zealand”) was presented with an umbrella and overshoes in a rainstorm. She was the guest of the Royal Society of St. George at a private dinner, and flew later to San Frapcisco. She said she was shocked to hear that the “Miss Vancouver” contest was conducted on bathing suit beauty alone. Dr. J. Leslie Will, of Christchurch, has been made a Councillor of Honour of the New Zealand Red Cross Society, the highest honour which the Society in New Zealand may confer for “long devoted and, meritorious service.” In the early part of the Second World War, Dr Will was Dominion Chairman of the Society, ana also Chairman of the Joint. Council of the order of St. John and New Zealand Red Cross Society, which sponsored the Sick and Wounded Fund. P.A. '
