WELLINGTON, July 22. Had the attention of the Minister in charge of Broadcasting, the Hon. F. Jones, been drawn to a threat. b v the secretary of the Musicians Union, Mr T. E. Skinner, M.P., that action might well be taken in New Zealand, similar to the demand in Australia, to ban the importation of records by certain popular American artists, asked Mr R. G. Gerard (Opposition, Ashburton) and Mr W. A. Sheat (Opposition. Patea) in a notice of quesiton in the House of Representatives to-day. ‘Will the Minister assure the House that he will not deprive thepeople of the right to choose the> own type of entertainment by submitting to the dictation of local union officials,” they asked.
