Professional Golfers at Kaiata Links

The visiting Canterbury professional golfers, N. H. Fuller and S. E. Cox defeated H. C. Hili and B. W. Caulton one up in a demonstration match at the Kaiata links on Sunday. Brilliant play by both Cox. and Fuller enabled them to secure birdie fours at the last hole, against Hill and Caulton’s bogies to win the game. The match was played over nine holes and considering the conditions the play was a good standard

The four-ball bogey handicap played at Kaiata on Saturday by the Greymouth. Colt Club was won by L. J. Wicks and R. W. Murdoch after a count back. B. W. Caulton and A. K. Smith and Garth and S. E. Cox were next with three up. The best round was played by McNulty and Stirton, with a score of four up, but because their card was incomplete they were disqualified. The following players qualified in the Kaiata Cup (net scores only):— Chivers 66, Taylor 71, Read 73, Thomas 74, Chibnail, Stopforth, Anderson, K. Smith, Donaldson 75, and Francis. Blue and Wicks 7. OTHER MATCHES

With a score of 94-22-72, Miss D Blair and Mrs P. Thorpy won the first round of the Robertson-Neville Cups foursome. They also won Mrs W. Fletcher’s trophies played in connection with the above match. Other good scores were- returned by Mrs Chivers and Mrs Meldrum, 103-30-73; Miss Deere and Mrs Gilbert, 101-27-74; Miss Taafe -and Mrs A. Smith, 105-28-77; Mrs Hannan and Miss Keating, 105-27-78; Mrs Mardon and Mrs MaKane, 108-30-78. The best scores returned in the Aotea Roa Cup medal match played on Wednesday were: Mrs P. Thorpy 101-31-70; Mrs F. Chivers 99-24-75: Mrs C. McKane, 109-34-75; Mrs K’. Smith 107-30-77; Mrs J. Hannan 95-18-77.

W. O’Malley won the medal round at Ikamatua in the first knock-out round of the Harevy Cup. O’Malley’s score was: 94-22-72. Other’ scores: — F. Gardyne 79-5-74; A. A. Bannan 100-22-78; C. Collyer 108-30-78; and J. Hampton 110-32-78. Results of the Harvey Cup games were:—August and N. Hampton played W. O’Malley and G. Broughton and finished all square; Gardyne and Bradley beat Purvis and Trusler 6-up; Williams and Blackie beat Nolan and Partner 1-up; J. D. O’Malley and Collyer played White and Bannan and finished all square Mrs Broughton, with 33 points, Avon the stableford bogey played by the Ikamatua Women Golf Club during the week-end. The next best cards were returned by:—Mrs Gardyne 32, Mrs O’Malley 31, Mrs Collyer 31, Mrs J. Hampton 31, Mesdames Crowe, Weir and Williams qnd Miss Fitzgerald 30.

A working bee ■on Saturday to prepare the greens for the Grey Valley tournament on Sunday will limit the women’s club to a nine-hole match
