BOXING Two West Coasters are Successful
DUNEDIN, May 10 The boxing contests here to-night included some first-class preliminary bouts Three of these contests were between West Coast and Otago amateur boxers, and they resulted as follows:— M. McGeady, West Coast (8.0) outDougall, Otago (7.12). K. Anderson, Otago (9.2), outpointed V. Tuck, West Coast (9.3), to score his twenty-sixth co'nsecutive victory. M. Tuck. West Coast (10.9) outpointed I. A. Dickson, Otago (10.7) in a hard-hitting contest. Quick Knock.outs in Auckland Bouts P.A. AUCKLAND, May 10. The end was quick in two professional boxing contests held in the Town Hall to-night. Both bouts ended in about the middle of the second round. In the first, Scotty McLeod, of Auckland, list 71b, won on a technical knockout from Bobby Mutant, of Australia, list lib. In the second and . main fight, Tommy Downes, of Palmerston North, 12st 121 b, knocked out Joe Burns, of Canada, 12st 51b. Neither bout was notable for the skill of the contestants. Cruickshauk Defeats Hanson P.A. . DUNEDIN, May 10. Before a crowd of nearly three thousand, lan C'ruickshank, of Dunedin, lGst 421 b. welter-weight champion of New Zealand, won a punishim professional boxing contest against Harry Hanson, of Wellington, lOst 81b. The bout ended in the seventh round when the referee halted the proceedings, after Hanson had been down three times. Cruickshank established an early lead, and, although Hanson fought back strongly. Cruickshank’s strong body punching wore him down.
