Singapore Troubles

SINGAPORE, May 2. The Singapore Harbour Board strike was practically broken by the week-end, when sufficient freely engaged labour was working all ships. Intimidators threw three grenades, allegedly against strike breakers. Two failed to explode, but the third exploded in a coffee shop. Twelve Chinese were sent to hospital. After police raids on the Singapore Harbour Labourers’ Union, a district judge sentenced the secretary and vice-president to two years’ imprisonment for assisting in the management of the illegal “Singapore Workers’ Protection Corps”.
