TABLE TENNIS
Following the receipt -of the report from the Greymouth delegates, Messrs Kelly and Newton, to the West Coast Table Tennis Association’s general meeting, held in Westport last week-end it has been decided to immediately introduce the new service rule. All clubs will shortly be issued with diagrams showing the service being played. The several players who have changed to the rule have found that it has opened the game up somewhat, as with the old rule too many points were scored off the service, whereas the service should be used, mainly, to commence the game. Too many players in the competitions do not observe the following rule and for their own benefit it should be observed: When serving, and at the moment of impact, the bat must not trespass outside either sideline or inside the base line i.e. over the table. N.B. You may stand where you please, so long as your bat is within the limits. If suitable accommodation can. be arranged the West Coast championships ’will be held in Greymouth on August 28-29.
