Westport Technical School
A meeting of the Parents’ Association was held at the school on Wednesday evening. Officers were elected as follows: —President. Mr R. Dawber (re-elected); secretary, Mr A R. Ness; committee, Mr J. Bennett, Mrs J. .W Stowell, Mrs R. Hickford and two teachers, Miss R. V. Jones and Mr C. Day. Mrs Hickford and Mr Provan addressed the meeting on the question of whether homework is necessary and of what nature it should be. After a general discussion the Principal. Mr J. D. McDonald, replied to the satisfaction of the meeting. It was put to the meeting that a sub-commit-tee be set up to meet the teachers to consider revision of the school rules, but it was left to the committee elected to carry this out. A film on the breeding of grasses was then shown to give parents an idea of the type and of educational films used at the school. The Principal. Mr J.D. McDonald, showed a skecth of plans of the new trade wing extension made up of two wood work rooms, draught room, cookery classroom and sewing room, with six matchines (two electric), a home science room, drying §hed, library, and physical educaVon room. The estimated cost, was £20,000 inclusive of all equfpment. The plans are expected to be ready within two months. A dainty supper was. then served. ~ .
