Westport Women’s Institutes Birthday Party

The Westport Women’s Institute sixteenth birthday was celebrated bv members and visitors from other institutes, numbering two hundred, at the Friendly Societies Hall. The aspirations were read by Mrs Tyler. The president, Mrs G. Farrell welcomed the visitors. Features of the evening were a tap ballet dance by. Miss Audrey Nott and a “Mad Hatter’s Parade” which evoked much laughter. Fis prize was awarded to Mrs M. Johns and Mrs Crase won first prize for the most original. Members from country Institutes proved to be victors in competitive items. Otner Items were: Vocal solos, Mrs P. McDonald, tableaux; “Mother Machree”, Mesdames Burrows. Nees and Johns. Scotch duet, Mrs M.' Johns and Mrs C. Ballantine. “Stop Your Tickling Jock”; quartette (Mrs C. Ballantyne, piano, and Mrs K. Richards 'cello. Mrs G. Burrow and Mrs M. Johns duettists). All items were well applauded.' A statue “Honky Tonk” was won by Miss Jean Johns. A humourous sketch, “The Fireman’s Concert.” was much enjoyed, Mrs G. Farrell taking the part of the wife and Mrs M. Johns that of the husband.. Supper was Served by the committee, after which the birthday cake, made and iced by Mrs Johns was cut by Miss R.. Theobald.
