(Special to Argus) AUCKLAND, May 6. The Auckland Trotting Club’s winter meeting will open at Epsom on Saturday, with large and well balanced fields, which include a large number of South Island horses. Provision has been made for divisions in the Mahgere Handicap and the Marconi Handicap. The weather has been showery during the week, and the going will be much easier than at the summer fixture and the championships in February. Horses likely to be in demand may include:—

FORM POINTS TO HIPPODROME IN WAIKATO HURDLES
Regarded as a preliminary to the Great Northerns, the form of those engaged in the jumping events at the Waikato Racing Club’s meeting to be held to-morrow, will be followed with interest. After his effortless win last week, Hippodrome promises to be one of the favourites in the Waikato Hurdles. The Ringmaster gelding was a good performer on the flat, and now that he goes into his fences straight and true, a bright future as a hurdles is predicted for him. The Ashburton Racing Club’s meeting will conclude to-morrow, when the principal race to be decided will be the Tinwald Handicap, run over a mile. Lexia has been working well and as a mile is her best distance, she should give a good account of herself.
