Australian Celebrations

(Rec. 9.5). SYDNEY; April 25. Anzac Day was celebrated throughout Australia' to-day bv dawn services at cenotaphs, followed by marches of returned soldiers' during the afternoon. In the main cities many people followed the usual procedure of standing an all-night vigil in preparation for a dawn service.

In wintry conditions in Sydney, the first people to arrive at the cenotaph p or this morning's service did so at 6 o’clock last evening. Early this morning over two thousand were present. The service was imnressively conducted in the light of torches. Processions of ex-servicemen were well attended. BEER STRIKE A HANDICAP The reunions suffered because of (he beer strike in Sydney. Many of the reunions scheduled for last night, had to be cancelled. Among them was that of the 'New Zealand SubEranch of the Returned Servicemen’s League. Though all the usual Anzac Day ceremonies were observed to-day, to-morrow will be a full holiday, with race meetings in the main centres. Sir P.
