NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN
The monthly meeting of the National Council of' Women, held recently in St. John’s Hail was presided over by Mrs Stewart. Remits circulated from headquarters urged: (i) That the allowable earnings of age beneficiaries be increased; (ii) That the Government be asked to reinstate corporal punishment in cases of criminal assault on women for their protection; and (iii) that the Government be asked to supply a ladies’ car on express trains for the use of mothers with children, the car to be equipped with facilities for heating and washing bottles for babies. It was decided to nominate Miss Joan Rattray for membership of the N.Z. National Commission for U.N.E.S.C.O. Airs Kennedy, representing the Pan-Pacific Society, asked delegates if any other societies would care to co-operate in sponsoring a child trom the stricken area of Europe, it being felt that, the expense was rather heavy for one society alone but that, by uniting, something might be achieved. Miss Murphy gave a concise account of the local “Save-the-Children” meeting.
