Third Big Prize There This Year P.A. DUNEDIN, April • 23. :: “I must look after the shop! Rate night to-night!” Mr Leo Madigankept telling his friends and his customers' iii his hairdressing at Forbury Corner, this afternoon, as they shoot his hand and clapped him on the back for his success m an Australian consultation, the result of which became known this morning. Sharing Ticket Number 127892, “Jim and Leo,” Mr Madigan has won £5OOO as his part of the prize of £lO,OOO, the other lucky ticketholder being Mr James Rennie, foreman baker. . The success of Messrs Madigan and Rennie marks the third first prize , in Australian lotteries won ' by. Otago ticket-holders within a period of three months. A few weeks ago MrsR. J. Scott, of Maori Hill, and Mrs . L. A. Bleach, of Ranfurly, won the first prize in a consultation; and in January a syndicate of the employees at Cadbury Fry Hudsons won the major prize in the Queensland lottery. Actually Mr Madigan will benefit bv £2OO more than his friends, because the organisers of the consultation have informed hint that he could expect to receive that amount’ as the bonus for selling the winning ticket. When Mr Madigan received this advice, he looked to see -.who had picked the lucky number, and he discovered that. he had sold it to Mr Rennie and himself, under their usual nom-de-plume, “Jim and Leo.” He at once crossed the road to Brown’s Bakery, and broke the news . to Mr Rennie.
