Leg Sheared off by Runaway Truck

Struck by a runaway truck on a jig at the Liverpool State coal mine yesterday afternoon. Alexander Blyth, mine trucker, a single man, of Dunollie, had his leg cut off.- An amputation was completed at the Grey Hospital ; yesterday afternoon, but Blyth died at the hospital at 8.45 o’clock last evening. MINES NOT TO WORK The injured man was given four blood transfusions from the blood bank at the hospital after he arrived, and preparations had been made to give him two more if they proved necessary. However, he died before the blood was administered.

Officials of the Liverpool and Strongman Miners’ Organisation announced last night that the men would not work to-day. Work will not be resumed until after the funeral of Mr Blyth.
