WESTPORT HARBOUR DEVELOPMENT AND CEMENT WORKS
May be Big Thing for District
It was stated at the Buller Progress League’s meeting on Thursdav evening that there was every prospect 'of a Cape Foulwind Cement Company being formed in the near future. One member said that it was expected that the works site would be chosen to coincide with large-scale developments projected for the Westport harbour. These developments, it was expected, would be referred to in the report of the committee of New Zealand engineers which is to be made to the Minister of Marine, Hon. Mr F. Hackett, this week.
It was stated that if the Westport wharves were extended around a floating basin, as was expected, then it was likely that the Cape Foulwind cement works would be situated handy to the North Beach.
The chairman, Mr L. Mockett, said that, if these reports were in any way correct, and as an expenditure of over £BOO,OOO in plant was being talked about, then these cement works would be a great thing for the Buller district.
