[Our Own Correspondent], HOKITIKA, Jan. 20 Dr Smart, F.R.C.S., of Ipswich Hospital, England, left Ipswich on January 3, en route for New Zealand, where he is to take up an appointment as surgeon superintendent of the Westland Hospital. He should arrive in Hokitika towards the end of February, and v ill take up his position immediately on arrival. The Gael is due to load at’Wellington this week for Hokitika and should arrive in Hokitika towards the end of the week.

Among companies recently registered is Gold Band Taxis (Hokitika), Ltd., private company. December 15; 118 Revell street, Hokitika. Capital: £6OO in £1 shares. Subscribers: Hokitika, L. Roberts 200; William Roberts 200; J. Keenan 200. Objects: taxi proprietors and incidental.

Boxing Day Sports Committee At the meeting of the Boxing Day Sports Committee held in the County Chambers on Monday evening, Mr H; V. Algar presided. The treasurer (Mr Baineaves) submitted the statement covering activities* fip to date’. The statement disclosed a surplus of £212. The secretary was granted a bonus of £5, and the balance was donated as follows: —£100 to the Racing sports committee, £5O to the Westland Rugby Sub-Union., and £5O to the Hokitika Athletic Association. A balance of £33 was set aside in the sports account and Messrs H. Wells, S. G. Havill, H. V. Algar and E. W Heenan were appointed trustees. It was decided that in the <[-vent of the restrictions being lifted the committee would hold a sports meeting during Easter week, and the total profits would be donated -to the Cass Square Improvement Fund. The secretary, was instructed to apply <;o the West Coast centre for a date to be allocated' foT the meeting.
