Seaman Smashes Plate Glass Window as New Year Celebration

As part of his New Year celebrations,, Thomas William Maben, aged 24, a seaman off the auxiliary vessel Huia, at present in port, smashed' a plate glass window in Shearer’s hairdressing salon, Mackay Street, with his’fist. The requel was his appearance in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning before Messrs A. F. Stratford and P. Hambleton, Justices of the Peace, with having wilfully-dam-aged the window. He was ordered to make restitution of £l7 10s for tne window and was convicted and discharged on a drunkenness charge. Costs of 10s were entered against him.
