Another complication in the Indonesian situation is that the autonomous States of Eastern Indonesia and Western Borneo have refused to acquiesce in the claims of Java and Sumatra for a preponderance, in the Union Government. “The Times” in a leading article says: “Unless the Indonesiana authorities are willing to conciliate them the Nationalist ‘front’, which already is embarrassed by incipient separationist movements in West Java and in Northern Sumatra, Madura, Ambon, Timor and Minahassa, may disintegrate. The Dutch authorities have been accused' of encouraging these movemnts, but it seems clear that they are spontaneous.
