Burma to Seek Independence

RANGOON, June 17.

The Constituent Assembly unanimously adopted Mr Aung San’s resolution that Burma’s future constitution should be that of an independent sovereign republic, known as “the Union of Burma.”

Mi- Aung San declared, “we must get independence within one year.” He added that a sub-committee would examine the draft constitution clauses and make a report, which would be circulated among the members before the Assembly’s- next session, which is expected to commence on July 7. Reuter’s says that M. Thakin Nu, President of the Constituent As-

sembly, will head the delegation which is leaving for London this week to discuss with the British Government political developments in Burma since the agreement last January to grant Burma independence, and to review the work of the Constituent Assembly.
