South Westland Beat Inangahua
Playing before a large crowd on Cass Square on Saturday, South Westland Sub-Union reps, proved their allround superiority to Inangahua SubUnion reps, to the tune of 16 to* 3. Play was even for a while, and then South Westland pressed, but, as earlier with Inangahua, failed with a couple of penalty kicks, until M. Wells succeeded at the third attempt. The Southern backs threw the ball about freely, but kicked rather too frequently. Leggoe (half), Muir (five-eighth), and T. Nolan (centre), showed to advantage in the Southern backs, while the full-back, A. Nolan, was safe. Half a dozen of their backs handled in one movement, but it just failed. Inangahua were kept defending, and Muir, after previous pots, notched a field goal. One of the Reefton liveeighths. by a dodgy run, pierced the opposition to score near the posts, but failed to convert his try. Even play saw the score 4—3 at half time. In the second half play was not spectacular, but the run of it was more in South Westland’s favour. From a bout of passing, Moore scored a nice try, but an easy kick was missed, and the final score, due to a persistent attack, 'was gained by J. Murphy, the try being converted. South Westland thus won by 16 to 3. Mr T. Roberts was referee. LOWER GRADE RESULTS. Junior: Celtic 6 beat Magpies 5; Blaketown 24 beat Tech. 0.8. 3. Third Grade. Celtic 11 beat Cobden 6.
