Most sports fans claim that they know quite a lot about their own particular brand of sport. There are, however, some questions that are a little difficult to answer. How many of these can you pick? (1) The Melbourne Cup recognised as the richest horse race in the Southern Hemisphere, has become a by-word in Australasia. When it was first run, over what distance, and what was the winner? (2) Rumour has it that Joe Louis world boxing champion, is about to retire. How old is he? (3) Now that the war has ended, flying is once more gaining in popularity. Gliding, too, is being recommenced. Who holds the world record for distance gliding and what is the distance? (4) The West Coast has produced some prominent footballers in recent years. How many times did Ron King captain a New Zealand team ? (5) Before Al Hershey came to New Zealand and shattered all records in. the shot putt event, the New Zealand record was held by another American athlete.
