Lahore Battle Casualties
NEW DELHI. May 22
It is announced that 42 Hindus' 35 Si libs and 31 Moslems have been killed ana' 107 Moslems and 92 Hindus and Sikhs were seriously injured in communal rioting at Lahore sinc--the people resuming their norma! business.
Gunplay is again rife in Calcutta where two were killed, 30 injured and 114 arrested during the day s 14 communal incidents.
‘To many Indians the word ‘lm perial” is like a red rag to a bull, yet. we shall stay in the Imperial Cricket Conference,” said Mr A. d'e Mello, president of the Board of Cricket Control in India, in an interview with the Evening Standard. ‘‘The bible of Indian cricket is still and will remain the M.C.C. rules.” Politics would make no difference to the welcome-to the English cricketers when they toured India in .1949-50, but he added, “if the Indian Army is split, if they go one way to Pakistan and the other way to Hindustan, then there will be bloodshed, and of course, we should not allow the English team to come.”
