A warning against using a. carpet sweeper on a new carpet during the first month of its life was given by Mr A. W. Baker in an address to the Auckland Rotary Club. The potential life of a carpet was greatly increased if it was swept lightly for the first weeks, small pieces of fluff forced into the pile when the loose end are trimmed off by machine being thus allowed to “felt” in with the body of the carpet. In addition, this fluff kept the pilt standing straight up, so the individual threads had a better chance of spreading on top, making for a harder wearing surface, said Mr Baker.
