Report on County Works

The following report of works carried out during the month, was submitted to the Buller County Council by the engineer-clerk (Mr C. FSchadick). at a recent meeting;—

“Highways: Ordinary maintenance has been carried out to the highways, which are in fair order at presnt, although they have been fairly rough at times during the bast month, due to lack of grading. One grader has- been under repair for most of the period, and it was necessary to have the other on the work between* seven to ten miles most of the time.

“Good progress has been made with the improvements between seven to ten miles. The first section of the 30 chains has been completed, with the exception of the top course metalling and the second section to Smith’s corner is in hand. Diesel shovel, grader, bulldozer and seven trucks have been engaged on this work for the month. Stockton and Waimangsp.oa-Bur-nett’s Face highways have been graded. “The crusher has crushed 400 cubic yards of sealing chips. This quantity is reauired for Karamea. It i« proposed to continue crushing for stock piles for next year’s sealing programme.

“Th° formation and metalling of Cedar Creek road has been completed to Cedar Creek bridge, and the construction of ihe bridge is in hand. One abutment and the centre pier has been completed and timber is one the site for the superstructure. Fifteen chains of formation has been done past the bridge. Stringers hare been squared and the piles have been obtained for the bridge to S. Lowe’s property at Charleston. “Ordinary maintenance repairs were carried out to the Cape, Nine Mile and Sergeant’s Hill roads; to Denniston, Millerton, Waimangaroa. Hector and Seddonville streets, and to the roads in Charleston and Karamea ridings’’.
