Spate of Strikes Begin in France
PARIS, May 19. The dockers at all the big ports in Northern France and French North Africa began to-day a 24-hour strike for higher wages, thus holding up the unloading of urgently-needed food. Porters bn the national railways of Paris simultaneously stopped, though a skeleton staff is handling perishables. Thirty thousand small shopkeepers throughout France have decided to close on June 4 in a token strike against Government controls.
