BOXING Mett v. Muston

With an approved purse of £5OO the Wellington Boxing Association is taking on a big hurdle in staging a match in the Town Hall, Wellington, next Monday, between Don MiHlett, New Zealand heavyweight boxing champion, and Jack Johnson, Australian heavyweight. Johnson, who is training at Jack Martin’s Gymnasium (Petone), is going particularly well. According to Jack Martin, whose charge, Danny O’Keeffe 1 , is providing Johnson with some much-needed sparring, Johnson is a puncher right out of the box, and the ordinary fittings on the punch-bag have had to be reinforced to take the walloping Johnson has been giving it. Mullett has been training at Eltham, where he has had the advantage of sparring against Jack Boyd, New Zealand amateur heavyweight boxing champion one of the best heavyweight prospects produced in New Zealand for many years.
