WATAROA NOTES

LOur Own Correspondent.] The construction of a new football ground was began last Saturday by a working bee. Possibly the field will this season be in use for play. The coming axemen’s sports at Wataroa look like being a record, judging by the inflow of nominations to the secretary. The other day the children of the Bruce Bay and Franz Josef schools were in Wataroa where they were treated at the dental clinic. Visitors here last week-end included Mr. and Mrs. Cadigan, of Bruce Bay. The local R.S.A. meets this week. Deer stalkers who have returned from the far South have brought with them a good selection of skins. The extension of the railway into South Westland, where timber is so abundant, is expected to be started in the near future. The immediate objection is Harihari, and it would give the people of the far South a much better service, besides economising in timber transport, and relieving the congestion on the main highway due to the droving of live-stock.
