EX-WEST COASTER KILLED IN HAWKE’S BAY ROAD ACCIDENT

(0.0. C. WAIROA, April 16. Mr Francis Foley met with a fatal accident this morning while travelling by road en route to visit the West Coast. The late Mr Foley was born on the West Coast, and resided for a number of years at Kumara, prior to coming to the North Island, where he took up contracting, at which he proved very successful. He was in his fifties; and was a well-known figure locally. He was a prominent Rugby player, having represented Wairoa on a number of occasions, and he took a keen interest in a number of other sports. Mr Foley and his daughter left Wairoa this morning en route for a holiday visit to the West Coast. A third local resident had been invited to make the trip, but at the last moment was not able to travel. Mr Foley is survived by his wife, one son, and one daughter, who was injured in the road accident.
