Timber Requirements

All timber required for the Buller district could be got from Karamea, said the Minister in Charge of State Forests (Hon. C. F. Skinner) when dealing with deputations at Karamea. It was stipulated that before any timber should be shipped to the North Island from district mills the full requirements of the Buller should be met, but if ships were waiting at Westport for timber it would be reasonable to expect that millers would concentrate on loading them as soon as possible. The Minister said that it was recognised that the freight on Karamea timber placed a little extra burden on Westport builders, hut normally there should be no difficulty in getting supplies from that district in accordance with the ruling given by his Department.
