CERTIFICATES FOR TRADESMEN IN NEW ZEALAND
WELLINGTON, March 24.
The Governemnt was anxious that a national system of trade certificates should be available in all trades, and that those certificates should be of such a standard as to ensure ready recognition in this country and abroad, said the Minister of Education (Mr Mas-on) to-day. He was referring to a consultative committee set up last year to make recommendations to the Government on examinations conducted by the Education Department in various trade subjects. The Minister stressed the representative nature of the committee which had been set up under 1 the chairmanship of the Chief Inspector of post-prim-ary s-chools, Mr E. Caradus, and was representative of various interested organisations. After referring to the system in Great Britai’/, where certificates are issued in t’wo grades, the Minister said he hoped it might be possible to make progress on some such lines in this country. Possibilities in that direction were already being explored by the committee.
