More Workers Arrive in Australia From Britain
PERTH, March 24
The second group of builders and tradesmen from the United Kingdom under the Australian m-gration plan have arrived at Fremantle by the Orion. There are 284 in the party, all single ex-servicemen and mostly coming from Scotland. They are going to Canberra for employment on Government projects. A spokesman said that many are former members- of the British Pacific Fleet who had girl friends in Australia and who want to marry and settle down here.
A sequel to the loss by a motorist this week of the sum of £55, which was removed from his trousers while he was sleeping in his car, was the receipt on Wednesday morning by the Superintendent of Police at Napier, of a bulky envelope through the mail, containing a sum equivalent to that, reported stolen. An unsigned note in the envelope indicated that the money was being returned by a person who stole it from the car while he was intoxicated.
