Valedictory Gifts
Mr F. Foote, who leaves this afternoon on transfer' to Cromwell in the Justice Department, was the guest at a social gathering of members of the old Westport Tennis Club recently, when he was presented with a special token of their esteem by Mr H. Lovell, with whom Mr C. Walker was associated in paying a tribute to Mr Foote’s splendid work for tennis in the Buller district.
At a meeting of the Air Force Association, Mr L. Harrison, who succeeds Mr Foote as president, presented him with an electric torch. Mr Foote presented Flight Lieutenant D. Coppersmith, who leaves soon on duty with the R.N.Z.A.F. in Japan, with a token of the members’ esteem.
A large gathering of members of the Westport Football Club in the Royal Hotel said good-bye to Mr Foote, who was presented <with a fountain pen by the president. Mr H. Taylor. A presentation was also made by Mr Ames to Mr Terry Ward, another member who is leaving the district for Blenheim. Mr Foote was the guest at a social gathering held by the Foresters’ Table Tennis Club. Mr Neil Ames, club captain, presented him with a hanging mirror. At the Westport Courthouse, members of the staff and police force met Mr Foote, when on their behalf Mr A. Fyfe (Clerk of the Court) presented him with a token of their esteem. On Friday evening, at a gathering of the Westport Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club, Mr Foote was presented with a gift by Mi’ S. Stewart.
