The headquarters for all Tradesmen is either Greymouth or Westport, but employees would require to be prepared to travel about the district and live in a Railway hut, an allowance of 4s 6d per night being payable whilst away from headquarters. Rate of pay is 3s 6d pei’ hour, with a guarantee of forty hours per week. Overtime at award rates is paid for all time in excess of 40 hours. Full Railway privileges are available. For married officers a deduction of £3O p.a. is made when an official residence is provided but a house allowance of £65 p.a. will be paid when no official residence is available. Commissions for New Zealand University Graduates as Technical Officers in R.N.Z.A.F. A limited number of permanent commissions are available in the technical sections of the R.N.Z.A.F., to New Zealand University graduates holding degrees in Engineering. Successful applicants will be commissioned as Acting Pilot Officers and will be required to undergo a flying training course and serve with an operational Squadron prior to specialising as Engineers.
