Dunedin Women Refute Bakers’ Allegation
P.A. DUNEDIN, March 21. Master bakers are wide of the mark if they really believe that the public reaction to the re-introduction of bread deliveries has been one of indifference. This is the opinion of housewives who, in response to inquiries to-day, gave their views on the subject, which was dismissed at the conference of the New Zealand master bakers yesterday as an “exploded bogey”. Inquiries have established that any limitation in the demand for deliveries is explained largely by the refusal of housewives to accept conditions which the bakers themselves have imposed on the purchase of bread elsewhere than in the shops. Many said that they would welcome deliveries if they could choose their own baker, and have the bread delivered to the door, instead of having it left at the gate, as was now done.
