Propaganda for Monarchists by Plane in Spain
LONDON, March 18. An aeroplane flew over Madrid last evening, dropping Monarchist leaflets, calling Jor a Royalist restoration, says Reuter’s 1 Madrid correspondent. One leaflet read: “Fifteen years without a monarchy has brought Spain one million dead, as well as her economic and moral ruin. Long live Don Juan!” Another leaflet said: “Let there be fewer official cars and more locomotives”. A third said: “We want neither Franco nor Communism. We want, a Spain where there would be justice for everybody. Long live Don Juan!”. Some of the leaflets fell in Granvia Avenue, Madrid’s main thoroughfare. Well-informed circles friendly to the General Franco regime state that a sub-committee .of four Ministers has drafted a proposal for consideration by Cabinet that Spain should be declared a Monarchist State under a Council of Realm over which General Franco would preside. It is officially stated that no leaflets were dropped over Madrid as cabled. The statement added that pilots in Spanish Air Force craft were testing new night landing equipment and night flying over Madrid, and the tests were so rare that they led to wild rumours, including one that “the Russians had come”.
